Hey friends! Here’s a recipe that will leave you proud and satisfied! It’s quick, healthy and tasty!
This ground turkey is seasoned with simple ingredients yet has so much flavor! You can serve it over a baked sweet potato (highly recommended), your favorite grain or even steamed veggies if you’re short on time! Make a double batch because this one really makes great leftovers!

We topped ours off with a just a little bit of hot sauce! I love Yellowbird Jalapeno Hot Sauce! All of their sauces are SO good!
Hatch Green Chile Turkey Over Sweet PotatoCourse: MainCuisine: American
Quick, easy, simple, healthy AND it tastes great! Make up an extra batch because this turkey makes the best leftovers! This is one of my husbands go to meals! We make it almost every week!
2 sweet potatoes
1 lb ground turkey
1- 4 oz can of Hatch Green Chiles (mild or hot)
1 jalapeno (optional) remove seeds for less heat
1 small white onion - diced
2 tablespoon cilantro- chopped
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon black pepper
½ tablespoon cooking oil (I use avocado oil)
Salt to taste
- Preheat oven to 425℉
Wash and dry sweet potatoes really well. Poke holes all over each potato. Place on a foil lined baking sheet.
Bake for 35-45 minutes. Set that timer!
- In a small bowl combine garlic powder, cumin, black pepper and salt. Set aside for later.
- Chop onions, cilantro and jalapeno (if using)
- In a cast iron skillet or non-stick pan heat ½ tablespoon oil.
*Cast iron skillet- low to medium heat
*Non stick skillet- set to medium heat
Add onion and jalapeno (if using) to pan and saute for 2-3 minutes.
Add ground turkey and start cooking. Using your spatula break up meat in the pan. Cook for 5 minutes.
Add the can of chiles and the dry seasoning.
Continue cooking and stir occasionally. Ground turkey should be cooked to 165℉. Total cooking time of ground turkey should be 14-16 minutes on medium heat.
Add cilantro, cover and set aside
- Let potatoes cool for a couple of minutes then cut potatoes in half. Using a fork, fluff up the middle of the sweet potato and top with ground turkey mixture. Garnish with extra cilantro and/or your favorite sauce if desired. Enjoy!
